- You’re Invited To Our Open House! -

Dear Family & Friends,

The Urban Apps & Maps program we would like to cordially invite you to attend the 2015 Urban Apps + Maps Studio Summer BITS program Open House Showcase on Thursday August 13th.

This year we have over 145 youth, ages of 14 – 22, participating in the program. They are working with over 46 Temple University mentors and 11 Temple University faculties from various departments such as Information Systems, Geography and Urban Studies, Electrical Engineering, Computer & information Science, English, Arts and Entrepreneurship, Neurology, and Media and Production. All students are learning three essential digital skills: design thinking, computational thinking and spatial thinking. Applying those skills, they have been working on a wide range of projects including:

  • Working on augmented reality technologies, defined as applications that deliver 3-D, real time and interactive digital graphics over physical space.
  • Exposing youth to emerging technologies that has integration of AR Media with Urban Space.
  • Developing apps that would serve and meet the needs of the Philadelphia community by using a design thinking approach and business innovation skills.
  • Learning different aspects associated with monitoring temperature and humidity using Arduino.
  • Documenting the changes in neighborhoods around the proposed rail park in Philadelphia from 1900- present, using historic archives, census data and field work.

The Open House Showcase will run from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, starting at Alter Hall – Fox School of Bus and Management. We will then visit different labs throughout Temple’s Main campus to view presentations by our students.
