Joyce A. JoyceJoyce A. Joyce, Ph.D., a Professor in the Department of English is a nationally recognized scholar in black literary criticism. Among her achievements are an American Book Award for Literary Criticism for her collection of essays Warriors, Conjurers, and Priests: Defining African-centered Literary Criticism, and authorship of numerous other books, including: Richard Wright’s Art of Tragedy, Ijala: Sonia Sanchez and the African Poetic Tradition, and Black Studies as Human Studies: Critical Essays and Interviews. From 1997 to 2001, she was chairperson of the African-American Studies Department at Temple University, where she is currently a professor in the English Department.
